Edwin Encarnacion #10
Toronto Blue Jays All-Star Edwin Encarnacion joined an elite group when he hit the 300th home run of his Major League Baseball career off Houston Astros reliever Will Harris with a solo shot leading off the ninth inning. Encarnacion became the 11th Dominican-born player to reach the 300-homer plateau. Despite the tough 5-3 loss to the Astros, 46,330 fans in attendance at Rogers Centre saw an historic milestone by one of the all-time greats in Blue Jays history. The homer was Encarnacion’s 32nd this season.
QUOTE: “Good for Eddie. Like Bautista [who collected his 300th homer last week], they’ve both had tremendous careers here. He puts himself in a different category when you get that. But well deserved, and it couldn’t happen to a better guy,” Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said.
FACT: Since May 1, Encarnacion has hit all but three of his 32 home runs, and is currently leading the Majors with 95 RBIs.
