St. Louis Cardinals
Jaime Garcia #54
St. Louis Cardinals left-handed pitcher Jaime Garcia turned in a performance that was among the most dominant this season on the Cardinals staff. Garcia struck out 11 Atlanta Braves over eight shutout innings, and only needed 89 pitches to complete his masterpiece at Busch Stadium. Cardinal closer Seung Hwan Oh (nickname, "Final Boss") worked a perfect ninth to preserve the 1-0 win. Garcia had one of the two Cardinal hits in the game, and it was a big one, producing the game's only run.
QUOTE: "Every time I go up to the plate with guys on, whether it's trying to advance a runner with a bunt or trying to get a hit, I prioritize it just like pitching. I'm not a good hitter, but I try to do my best to put a good swing on the ball and sometimes good stuff happens like tonight," said a humble and honest Garcia.
FACT: Garcia became the first Cardinals pitcher in 61 years to drive in the only run of a 1-0 win (Harvey Haddix, July 17, 1955).
