Mike Trout #27
In the top of the first inning, Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout homered off Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Corey Kluber to the opposite field for a brief 1-0 Angels lead. It was Trout’s 22nd home run of the season, and marked the third time in the previous six games on the road trip that he homered in the first inning. The Indians won the game 14-4 at Cleveland’s Progressive Field. August has been tough on the ball club. In July, the Angles led the Majors with 152 runs scored and, to date, for the month of August, the Angels have been only able to scratch across 36 runs.
QUOTE: “At times we have swung the bats well on this road trip. And at times we have pitched well but we haven’t been able to blend the two,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.
FACT: Mike Trout led the American League in runs scored in 2012 (129), 2013 (109), and 2014 (115). Trout won the American League MVP Award in 2014, and finished second in AL MVP balloting in 2012, 2013, and 2015.
