Kansas City Royals
Danny Duffy #41
In a 3-0 Kansas City Royals win, Royals left-hander Danny Duffy dominated the Tampa Bay Rays by no hitting them through seven innings and striking out 16 in eight scoreless innings. Duffy's 16 strikeouts is a new single-game record for a Royals pitcher in franchise history, breaking the previous team record of 15 strikeouts by Zack Greinke in 2009. Tampa Bay's left fielder, Desmond Jennings, broke up Duffy's no-hit bid with a leadoff double in the 8th inning.
QUOTE: "I think it was my fault. [Jennings] struck out on a changeup and slider before and I didn?t think he would be ready for a fastball," Royals catcher Salvador Perez considerately said as he took the blame for the only hit allowed by Duffy - and in the entire game.
FACT: Danny Duffy started the season in the bullpen.
