Michael Fulmer #32
On the road in Arlington, Texas, at Globe Life Park in front of 35,458 fans, 23-year-old Detroit Tigers rookie right-hander Michael Fulmer pitched the first complete game shutout of his career against the Texas Rangers. Fulmer was in command all afternoon with his pitches, working the corners and throwing a sharp slider with the changeup. When Fulmer allowed Texas to mount a modest threat in two of the first four innings, both were quickly silenced with strikeouts to end each inning.
QUOTE: “I just looked to make quality pitches early in the count and tried to get some ground balls and some weak popups. The defense played fantastic,” Fulmer said.
FACT: Fulmer, now 10-3, did not allow a single walk in his 4-hit, 9-strikeout masterpiece, and now owns the lowest earned-run average in the American League with a 2.25 ERA.
