J.D. Martinez # 28

In the bottom of the 8th inning and the game tied 1-1, J.D. Martinez pinch-hit for his first at bat since returning from the disabled list. Martinez crushed the very first pitch he had seen since June 16 for a go-ahead solo home run off Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale, helping the Detroit Tigers to a hard earned 2-1 victory at Comerica Park. The win extended the Tigers winning streak to eight games.

QUOTE: "That's what good hitters do. They make things happen in games, and clearly you saw what he did. And it won the ballgame for them," Sale said of the clutch home run by Martinez. "That one's going out anywhere. You tip your cap to J.D. on that one," said White Sox manager Robin Ventura.

FACT: It was the second career pinch-hit home run for Martinez.
